The skinny on the James Dean Rebel Run of 2002

Well the James Dean Rebel Run of 2002 in Fairmount, Indiana is now over. It was by far the biggest one in recent years and probably the largest that i can remember. The whole town was elbow to elbow. There were people from all around the country who attended this annual festival. I remember that there was a car who won a plaque who was from southern Florida..

There were hundreds of cars and a group of Harley Davidson riders decided to meet at the Harley Davidson store in Wabash and ride into town for the festivities. There were well over 500 bikes in town for the three day event.

Cars like this and people everywhere

A survey done last year determined that over 30,000 people attended the annual event in 2000 and contributed over Six-Hundred Thousand Dollars at local restaurants, hotels, and shops.

For a three day event, this really isnt that bad. That is just a small idea of how large this festival is. I am sure that this year surpassed that amount by far.

Fairmount isnt the only busy place

Faimount isnt the only place with an event going on during the weekend. Gas City (home of Project-X) has a car show called the Ducktail Run (named after the popular hairstyle of the 1950's). The people who show up for the James Dean Run also travel the 3 miles to Gas City to show off their cars and admire many others too.

There are also many events held there which include a flame throwing contest, a neon light show, and the ever popular burnout contest, which the kids of Gas City usually hold in the middle of Main Street during the night. The local cops usually turn the other cheek, but only for the weekend(We'll have pictures of this up soon)
